A Look At The Human Male Genitalia: What Is The Penis, What Are The Parts Of It and What Is Its Function

The penis… it’s the human male’s external sex organ that’s used to expel urine and expostulate semen. This man tool is the counterpart to the female’s clitoris. In Latin, penis meant a tail and its verb pendere means to dangle down.

This sex organ is a true work of nature. It’s a receptor for pleasure with an intelligent design (...) that’s inspired many myths about men. At some points, it’s very sensitive and at other points it’s very durable.

7 Structural Parts Of The Human Penis

1 – Glans – This is the penis head and is generally flexible and shimmering. It’s really an inner organ except when the body is aroused sexually and comes out from the prepuce. The glans’ surface is actually mucous membrane and can keratinize (dry, thick and numb) in circumcised men. The glans merges with the corona (penis shaft). This region is quite sensitive during arousal.

2 – Frenulum – This is very flexible connective tissue that joins the skin tube to the glans’ ventral side. When aroused, the frenulum is ultra sensitive that a light flicker can bring a man to orgasm. When arousal has subsided, it pulls the foreskin back over the glans to protect it from the air and other things it might contact so that it doesn’t dry out.

3 – Inner Skin – Sitting underneath the corona is an area called the inner skin. It’s only time to see daylight is when the male body is aroused. The skin tube will protect it when the body is not aroused. Circumcised penises have more than half of this skin removed. This skin has sebaceous glands that give off natural emollients, which fights off bacteria and keeps it sensitive and soft.

4 – Skin Tube – The penis main shaft is sheltered by the skin tube, which is a lot less sensitive than the inner skin. Men who have been circumcised will experience hair growth, which will increase upwards after so many years of erections. Men who are not circumcised will not experience hair in this region.

5 – Prepuce – This is the outer and inner skin that protects the glans. It’s also called the foreskin and typically removed during a circumcision. The prepuce’s leading edge holds specific nerve receptors called J-cells that react when straightened.

6 – Erectile Tissue – Inside the penis shaft is three chambers of erectile tissue that, during arousal, become filled with blood. They’re deep inside the body so the actual size of the penis is much more than what people can see.

7 – Urethra – This is the duct that hauls semen and urine from the body. It lies underneath the frenelum and thought of as the G-spot for a man.

The Penis’ Function – What Role Does The Penis Play In The Human Male Body

There are two main types of the penis’ function

1 – It’s a passageway for the body to expel waste through urine.

2 – It’s a reproductive organ and is partially liable for procreation.

Less important functions of the penis include achieving both psychological and sexual satisfaction, social well-being and pleasure.

Keep in mind that the penis is comprised of three key areas: two large chambers called the Corpora Cavernosa and one smaller chamber called the Corpus Spongiosum.

When an erection occurs, all three chambers are filled with blood. The bottom chamber (Corpus Spongiosum) is responsible for the urination and ejaculation. The top chamber (Corpora Cavernosa) holds most of the penis’ blood (about 90 percent during erection).

What You May Not Know About The Penis’ Erection

There are no bones or muscles in the penis; just spongy, soft tissue that’s got a lot of blood vessels and nerves. When the body is sexually aroused, blood will fill these blood vessels, which results in the penis enlarging and stiffening (known as an erection). When the penis releases semen, it’s known as an ejaculation.

Three Conditions Of The Penis

Your penis will be in one of the three conditions at all times:

1 – Limp penis – This is when the penis is not stimulated or aroused; a normal position.

2 – Limp stretched penis – This condition is when the limp penis is stretched out as far as it can go.

3 – Erect penis – This is when the penis is aroused either by visual, pharmaceutical or tangible manipulation.

How Can You Measure Your Penis’ Length

The simplest way to get a measurement of its length is to angle the penis in a downward position. Set the ruler or measuring tape directly on the pubic bone, above the penis base. From there, you’ll need to measure to the tip. This gives you the typical length when the penis is erect.
